Focus on reforms as 200th exoneration nears
198 people have been exonerated through DNA evidence nationwide since 1989. The 200th DNA exoneration is expected to occur later this month – an important milestone in the criminal justice system. As we approach this moment, critical reforms are taking hold around the country.
An article in yesterday’s Cleveland Plain Dealer points to the need for reform and discusses an ongoing Cleveland case, in which DNA testing has proved that a forensic expert gave false testimony that led to the conviction of Innocence Project client
of a 1997 Cleveland murder.
